Sporting director Richard Hughes is reportedly set to sit down with a Liverpool player in the coming days alongside Arne Slot to discuss his future this summer.

The transfer window has been a slow one for the Reds, with no major signings or outgoings yet to be made with Liverpool currently away in the United States on their pre-season tour, where they will soon face Arsenal and Manchester United.

Whilst there have been rumours surrounding the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and on targets such as Federico Chiesa, there’s been little to suggest that anything will be made official whilst the Reds are away in America.

Yet sporting director Hughes could be about to kick-start something into action.

Hughes and Slot set to discuss Ben Doak’s future at Liverpool

According to the Daily Mail, Hughes and Slot will soon sit down with Ben Doak to discuss the teenager’s future at Liverpool, with the winger currently wanted by the likes of Premier League side Leicester City on loan.

Hailed as ‘outstanding’ by Phil Thompson, Doak is regarded as one of Liverpool’s most exciting youngsters even with the attacker missing essentially the last two seasons of his career due to various injury problems.

Yet with Doak now back to full fitness and starring for Liverpool in pre-season, a clear plan for his development this season is needed with Hughes and Slot, who will be keen to get the best out of the Scottish youth international.

And with talks planned, an outcome could soon be made for what to do with Doak, who next season could be best leaving Liverpool on loan to get regular playing time away from the Anfield giants.

Liverpool have to send Doak out on loan this summer

Doak showed when fit last season that he has the potential to become something quite special, with regular game time the quickest way for the teenager to realise his exciting potential.

And with Liverpool unlikely to give Doak the playing time he needs to develop, a loan move makes the most sense for the 18-year-old attacker this summer, with the forward more than ready to take on the senior men’s game on his own.

A move to a club like Leicester would be perfect, yet Liverpool need to be smart when it comes to loaning out Doak, who would prefer regular playing time over joining a big that might sound good on paper.
