£25m Liverpool player has told Adrian he really wants more game time at Anfield

Liverpool players are waiting to find out their position in the new-look hierarchy under Arne Slot.

There have so far been no new additions to the Reds squad this summer, meaning that things could be expected to remain the same.

But with a new head coach coming in, things are rarely kept unchanged. There are always some winners or losers when a manager is replaced. That will be no different this year at Liverpool.

With so many of the first-team squad away, what is and is not different at Anfield may not become clear for some time.

However, as those bigger-hitters wait to arrive, some more fringe members of the Liverpool team need to take their chance to impress Slot.

Adrian reveals Caoimhin Kelleher conversation

It’s inarguable that those who have been at the AXA Training Centre since day one of Slot’s reign have found themselves at an advantage against some of their teammates.

Obviously, there are certain players who are still shoo-ins to the Dutch coach’s starting XI.

Virgil van Dijk, for example, is not in any kind of danger of losing his place at centre-back despite being slated to arrive just two weeks before the start of the season.

Another who is virtually certain to retain his spot without having worked with Slot for much time at all is Alisson Becker. That could spell frustration for Caoimhin Kelleher.

Kelleher has seen plenty of change in the goalkeeping department this summer. Coaches John Achterberg and Jack Robinson have left, with new arrival Fabian Otte employing some interesting training methods.

With Alisson away – and third choice Adrian having left – Kelleher has been the senior goalkeeper for Slot and Otte to preside over so far.

Competitive game time may still be hard for the 25-year-old to come by, though, and speaking to The Athletic, Adrian has suggested that this could affect Kelleher’s future.

“I’ve a really good relationship with Caoimh, we had so many conversations,” says the Spaniard. “The ‘mister’ (Klopp) saw he was ready and I had to be there to support him.

“He showed last season he could be Liverpool’s No 1,” Adrian adds. “It’s also clear that, when Alisson is there, he’ll start most games. Caoimh is at an age where you want to play every weekend. He also wants to be Ireland’s No 1, which will happen if he’s playing regularly. I know he wants to have more minutes. I hope he makes the right decision for himself.”

Will Caoimhin Kelleher leave Liverpool?

To some it may be a surprise that Kelleher is still at Liverpool at all. The Irishman looked destined to leave this summer. However, with August now nearly upon us, he is still with the Reds.

A lack of involvement in last week’s friendly with Preston had suggested that Kelleher could be close to an exit. But having been taken on tour to the US, that doesn’t appear to be the case after all.

With Liverpool quiet across the board, this may not mean much. There is still plenty of time and Kelleher has been attracting interest.

However, Liverpool want around £25m for Kelleher and it’s understandable that that could put a lot of potentially interested parties off.

Ultimately, Kelleher has remained professional throughout his time as Liverpool’s No.2 and that will likely continue. If he does not leave though, he surely will not get more than the 26 appearances he managed last season. Disappointment could be coming his way.
