Liverpool are tracking £21m ‘top prospect’ and think he could quickly become a starter

Liverpool are assessing how best to approach the final stretch of the transfer market.

The Reds have so far stayed out of doing any incoming business, instead preferring to focus on what they currently have.

With Arne Slot brand new through the door and so many players away on extended pre-season holidays, that was probably a wise decision.

But Premier League football waits for no one, and standing still in the market while others strengthen could have lasting effects for Liverpool.

As a result, there remains a possibility that the Reds bolster the first-team squad during the last month of the window.

Liverpool monitoring Dean Huijsen

Whether Liverpool finally enter the market or not is likely to be decided during their ongoing tour of the USA.

The Reds touched down in Pittsburgh on Tuesday and some interesting videos of Slot barking orders at his players have since emerged.

The Dutch coach is clearly very hands on when it comes to training and as a result should now be getting a good grasp of the level of his new players.

And as decisions are made surrounding a few of them, it could in turn lead to Liverpool making a signing or two.

One of these could come at centre-back, where the Reds are a little light. And according to journalist Graeme Bailey, Juventus defender Dean Huijsen is a player who Liverpool have had their eye on.

“Dean Huijsen is a player that Liverpool are aware of, they like him,” the journalist exclusively tells Rousing The Kop. “They think he is a top prospect and is the sort of player who could emerge into a starter quite quickly.

“However, I am told the player is keen on first-team football, which is why we are seeing someone like Bournemouth leading the chase,” Bailey adds.

“They also have [sporting director] Tiago Pinto who signed him [on-loan] for Roma, which is a benefit to them.”

Liverpool should make Dean Huijsen move

Huijsen is reportedly available at around £21m this summer. Considering the price someone like Leny Yoro went for, that looks like a remarkable deal.

At 19, Huijsen is slightly older than Yoro but also has the look of a potentially top quality centre-back.

As a result, we think Liverpool should be moving to bring in the Spaniard and if they don’t think he’s a starter now then loan him out for a year.

Bournemouth are seemingly pushing to sign him, but Huijsen is stalling, reportedly waiting for a more ‘prestigious’ club.

If Liverpool can promise him game time in a year – which is a real possibility – then maybe they could still be the right place for his development. This one isn’t done just yet.
