Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared his verdict on playing a new role for Liverpool next season under Arne Slot.
The 25-year-old Anfield defender was faced with criticism this summer at Euro 2024 after Gareth Southgate’s plan to play Alexander-Arnold in central midfield alongside Declan Rice seemingly failed after just two games for England.
The debate on whether Alexander-Arnold has a future in midfield is one that has now been raging on for a few years, with the Liverpool star impressing in patches in the role whenever given the opportunity by Jurgen Klopp.
And Alexander-Arnold has now shared how he actually feels about playing in midfield.

Alexander-Arnold unfazed by midfield debate ahead of new Liverpool season
Speaking to the Mirror, the Liverpool vice-captain shares how he isn’t bothered about the ongoing debate surrounding his positional future, with Alexander-Arnold revealing that he just wants to help the team win games.
Indeed, central midfield could be Alexander-Arnold’s true calling in the upcoming years for club and country, yet for now, it’s apparent that the defender is only focused on winning and cleaning up as much silverware as possible.

Alexander-Arnold said on playing in midfield: “I don’t have an opinion on it, if I’m being honest, and even if I did, it isn’t my decision. As long as I’m on the pitch, I want to impact games playing in whatever position that will be in whatever way I can, I just want to help the team win and be successful.
“The team always comes first, so if that means playing in a defensive fullback role, an attacking fullback or rolling in midfield, it doesn’t matter to me, as long as I follow the instructions I’m given and I can carry them out as best I can and to help the team win.”

Alexander-Arnold’s full transition into midfield could begin this season
Alexander-Arnold playing in midfield is something that has been in the pipeline for some years, and although the Liverpool star wasn’t as effective as many would have hoped for at the Euros, the transition into the role for the Reds could begin this season.
The 25-year-old has all the tools needed to become a world-class midfielder if Slot feels like Alexander-Arnold is ready to take that next step in his career, especially if another right-back is signed this summer.
And with Liverpool heading into something new post-Klopp, now is the time to put all the eggs in the basket on Alexander-Arnold becoming a midfielder, with the England star seemingly born and built for the role.
