‘Outstanding’ player is on the verge of joining Everton just one year after turning down Liverpool

Liverpool have so far watched on as their Premier League rivals continue to make summer signings.

The Reds have stayed quiet as a mouse during the transfer window as they continue to assess their options.

Meanwhile, after a relatively serene start across the board, other English clubs are starting to kick into gear.

Man United in particular are starting to make moves. After signing Joshua Zirkzee they also pipped Leny Yoro from under Liverpool’s nose.

But while United are making some attractive looking additions, Liverpool’s other fiercest rivals – Everton – are also starting to splutter into life.

Everton nearing Jesper Lindstrom move

Everton were one of the sides in danger of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules at the end of June.

As a result, some of their early business in the window can perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt. The signing of Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa, for example.

But they’ve since brought in Iliman Ndiaye from Marseille and now look to be on the verge of taking a player who just 12 months ago could have moved to Anfield.

While Liverpool were heavily focused on bolstering their midfield, they were also seemingly keen to sign one more attacker, too.

As a result, Liverpool were linked with signing Jesper Lindstrom, then at Eintracht Frankfurt. Lindstrom claimed that he had turned down a move to Liverpool in favour of Napoli, where he would supposedly play more.

“It was Liverpool and I am a Liverpool supporter, so it would’ve been a madly fascinating experience, but would it have been an intelligent move?” queried the 24-year-old.

As it turned out, Napoli was not so smart a decision either. Lindstrom made just three starts all season for the Italians and as per journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, is now on the verge of joining Everton on-loan.

“Everton and Napoli have reached an agreement for Lindstrom on loan + buy-option,” says Di Marzio. “Pending agreement between player and Everton.”

Liverpool proven right over Jesper Lindstrom

It has never been confirmed just how close Liverpool came to signing Lindstrom 12 months ago.

There does appear to have been genuine interest from the Reds, but we struggle to believe that Lindstrom would have turned down the move.

He was obviously keen to get playing time after leaving Eintracht and that factored into his decision. But Napoli clearly weren’t the right team for that either.

If Liverpool really did make the Denmark international an offer, we can’t believe he would have turned it down on that basis.

Lindstrom has been called ‘outstanding‘ by former teammate Kevin Trapp and is clearly a talented playe. He looks like a really good signing for Everton.

Having said that, it now looks relatively obvious that he was never of Liverpool quality. At least he’ll get to sample Anfield and the city next season.
