£12m Liverpool player says he’s ‘buzzing’ for new season despite claims he could leave

Liverpool could still see a number of players leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Reds have so far kept the exact same squad that ended Jurgen Klopp’s time at the club back in May.

One or two players have returned from loans, such as Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg, but otherwise the Liverpool squad hasn’t changed.

For Arne Slot, that is perhaps a good thing. The new head coach has been working with his available group at the AXA Training Centre over the last week.

And as preparations for the new season continue to ramp up, one player who’s future is in doubt has admitted that he’s really looking forward to being back at Anfield.

Kostas Tsimikas shares thoughts on new season

Although there is a good sized group – including Mohamed Salah – now back in training, Slot still has not been able to work with most of his key stars.

In the meantime, there has been a chance for some fringe players to step up and lay down a marker with the new boss.

Slot himself will not be solely in charge of incomings and outgoings for Liverpool. It will seemingly be a collaborative effort mainly between the Dutchman and sporting director Richard Hughes.

Nevertheless, if Slot is keen on working with a player who was slated to be sold, it’s likely that he will be able to change the sale being made. Slot is happy with Van den Berg, for example, who could possibly now stay at the club.

Another player linked with a move away is Kostas Tsimikas. The Greek left-back has fallen down the pecking order of late and as a result it has been claimed that Tsimikas could leave Liverpool.

Despite that, when the 28-year-old was asked how he is looking forward to the new season by LFCTV, he showed no signs that he’s thinking about going anywhere else.

“The pre-season always finishes very quickly,” says Tsimikas. “I’m really looking forward to it, I miss this feeling of playing in front of our fans.

“I think all the red people missed this feeling, to see the team at Anfield, and I’m buzzing to see us again at Anfield winning games.”

Liverpool linked with new left-back

Part of the feeling that Tsimikas could be moved on this summer is that Liverpool continue to be linked with new left-backs.

Rayan Ait Nouri is on Liverpool’s radar as they begin to prepare for a future without Andy Robertson.

Ait Nouri is seemingly a relatively long-term target for the Reds and his addition would push Tsimikas to fourth choice.

It has also been rumoured that Liverpool could sign Ferdi Kadioglu from Fenerbache. Kadioglu had a good Euro 2024 with Turkey and his signing would also be bad news for Tsimikas.

For now though, Kostas remains in place. If the season does commence with the £12m man acting as back-up to Robertson, you won’t find too many who will be complaining.
