Fabrizio Romano says there’s a ‘concrete possibility’ that Liverpool will sell £8m player, talks have started

Liverpool are starting to make some moves to clear space in the squad this summer.

The Reds have so far been reluctant to do any business at all in the market, with fans still waiting for Arne Slot’s first signing.

Part of the reason for that is clearly the ongoing international tournaments. Another explanation is that Liverpool are allowing their new head coach a settling in period before tinkering with the playing staff.

With Slot now taking charge of pre-season training for the first time though, it looks like FSG have begun to trim the fat from the Liverpool squad.

The Dutch coach has only been in charge for a couple of sessions, but it looks like he may already have to wave goodbye to one player.

Liverpool in talks to sell Nat Phillips

Up until this point of the summer, there have been rumours that Liverpool could lose some big players before the end of the window.

The likes of Mohamed Salah have been linked with moves away, while Luis Diaz, Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk have had similar treatment, too.

If Liverpool sell any one of those four players, they would likely be set to receive a pretty huge transfer fee.

With FSG preferring to operate on a sustainable transfer budget whereby Liverpool spend what they earn, that could signal a spending spree in the market.

Another way the Reds owners have brought money into the coffers though is by selling off more fringe players of the squad.

And after claims that they are in talks with Turkish side Trabzonspor over the sale of Nat Phillips, journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the centre-back could now leave Anfield.

“Nat Phillips to Trabzonspor is a concrete possibility, yes,” Romano reported on his Playback channel.

“Trabzonspor are in negotiations for Phillips, waiting for the player to decide.”

Nat Phillips ready to end Liverpool frustration

With Jurgen Klopp now gone from Liverpool, it feels as though Phillips will likely follow.

Klopp had always been the biggest supporter of the 27-year-old at the club. Having seen Phillips put in a ‘superb’ spell at Stuttgart in 2019/20, the former Reds boss continued to back him.

But Phillips played just eight times for Liverpool in the past three years. It’s been clear for some time that the former Bolton youngster has no future at the club.

Now nearing his late twenties, it’s imperative that Phillips gets his career back on track and finds a proper home. Maybe that could be in Turkey.

Phillips had a good second-half of last season on-loan at Cardiff City and would be a fine signing for Trabzonspor. According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool have placed an £8m asking-price on the centre-back and if they could get that, it would be good business all around.
