Liverpool have been quiet during the transfer window so far both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

The Reds are usually relatively quick out of the blocks in their transfer activity, but have done nothing over the summer so far.

With two international tournaments currently ongoing though, Liverpool are not the only ones to have been biding their time.

All across Europe, teams are waiting for the transfer market to really bolt into life. That has had an impact on goings on at Anfield so far.

Nevertheless, with Arne Slot now kicking pre-season off for the Reds, it feels like things are about to ramp up rather quickly.

Liverpool receive offer for Nat Phillips

As Slot starts his work at the AXA Training Centre, he’s about to get a much better look at the Liverpool squad.

Obviously, with most of the big hitters still away, that is currently amounting to plenty of fringe players and others from the Liverpool academy.

Still, there is plenty for the new head coach to cast his eye over. A number of players who have already reported back are in need of their futures being sorted.

One of those who could really do with knowing where his career is going is Nat Phillips. The centre-back is remarkably still on Liverpool’s books despite playing just eight times in that past three years.

Now 27, Phillips really does need to find himself a permanent home this summer.

Thankfully, there looks to be some movement in that department for defender. According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Super Lig side Trabzonspor have sent an ‘official offer’ to Liverpool for Phillips.

“Trabzonspor made an official offer for Liverpool forward Nathaniel Phillips!” Sabuncuoglu says on X, without further detail.

Liverpool should accept Nat Phillips offer

If Phillips is keen on moving to Trabzonspor, then Liverpool have got to accept whatever the Turkish club are offering.

At this point, if there is any money at all involved, then the Reds should agree to the terms.

As Phillips is an academy product, then any fee received should go down as pure profit for Liverpool. They aren’t losing anything at all and the player himself is only going to lose value and stagnate further if he stays.

In reality, there has never been a time when Phillips has been a genuine option for Liverpool. He has generally done a terrific job when called upon and will always be remembered for his heroics in 2020/21.

As Jurgen Klopp once said, Phillips was ‘incredible’ at that time. But the hard truth is that that was more than three years ago now. At 27 Phillips needs to finally kick start his career.

If Turkey is the place for him to do that, then so be it.
