How Mohamed Salah really feels about Liverpool blocking him from going to the Olympics with Egypt

Liverpool will be able to count on having Mohamed Salah for a full pre-season this summer.

The Reds are having to make do with their players coming back in dribs and drabs following the international tournaments.

With 14 of the Liverpool squad involved at either Euro 2024 or the Copa America, Arne Slot is having to wait a while to have his full group available.

As a result, they could have done without any more exits due to the upcoming Olympics in Paris. There had seemed a likelihood that Wataru Endo could be called up for Japan, while Salah’s inclusion hung in the balance, too.

Thankfully though, Endo was not selected, while Liverpool decided that Salah should report back for pre-season at the AXA Training Centre instead.

Mohamed Salah won’t join Egypt’s Olympic squad

It will have been an enormous boost to Slot that both Salah and Endo will be available for day one of pre-season.

While youngsters such as Ben Doak are already back and keen to impress, the new head coach won’t have too many senior players to train.

Salah is still one of the biggest names at the club and it will be a huge help for Slot to have him around to call upon.

The one worry would be that perhaps Mo would be disappointed with not being able to feature in the Olympics. The 32-year-old loves playing for his country and is the captain of the national team, after all.

According to the Liverpool ECHO though, Salah has absolutely no problem with not heading to Paris. It’s claimed that the decision for him to withdraw from consideration was taken with ‘full support’ from Mo himself.

Furthermore, Liverpool are said to hold ‘no concerns’ that Salah will be upset by their call, having consulted him before hand.

Things would perhaps have been more difficult, but Egypt reportedly did not reach out directly to the Reds to release Salah having become ‘resigned’ to the fact that he would not be permitted to join them.

With the decision made that he’ll stay on Merseyside, Salah is claimed to be ‘keen to get off on the right foot’ with Slot and is also ‘determined’ to remain a key player under the new boss.

Saudi clubs could push for Mohamed Salah transfer

This is really superb news for Liverpool fans. It’s going to be hard enough for Slot to get a grip on his squad as it is this summer. Losing Salah would have made it even more tough.

More than the practical benefits of having the Egyptian King in the building though, this also shows Salah’s mindset heading into the lat year of his contract at Anfield.

It’s clear that Mo is absolutely not pushing to leave Liverpool. If he were, why would he accept this decision here so gracefully. The winger is obviously happy and looking forward to life under Slot.

Having said that, the prospect of Saudi Arabian clubs coming back in to try and sign Salah cannot be ruled out.

After the Pro League sides got their budgets at the start of July there have been claims that they could make another offer for Salah.

If that happens then a discussion will need to be had. But for now, we just can’t wait to see Mo back at the AXA and working under Slot.
