Liverpool player videoed scoring screamer in training ahead of Euro 2024 knockout rounds

Liverpool have seven players getting ready to feature in the knockout rounds of Euro 2024.

It hasn’t been the best of tournaments for Liverpool players so far, with three already heading home.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Andy Robertson will have reason to be disappointed about their early exits, while Vitezslav Jaros couldn’t even get a game for the Czech Republic.

As well as Jaros, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Ryan Gravenberch are all yet to get a single minute of action for France, England and the Netherlands respectively.

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ‘hung out to dry‘ for his midfield performances for England. The only way has to be up.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scores training ground screamer

While it seems that things will not improve for any of Konate, Gomez and Gravenberch, hopefully Alexander-Arnold will still have a shot at redemption.

It remains to be seen what Arne Slot has planned for the academy graduate, but there is a chance that his future still does lie in midfield.

After taking Trent out of the line-up didn’t work for Gareth Southgate in their final group game against Slovenia, it seems possible that the 25-year-old will come back into England’s line-up, too.

As Gary Neville said recently, Alexander-Arnold will have been ‘devastated‘ to have seen his starting chance taken away from him.

Fighter that he is, you can bet that Trent will be giving it his all to prove something to Southgate during training.

And from a clip posted on England’s official X page on Friday, that looks to be exactly what’s happening. In the five-second video, Alexander-Arnold can be seen lining a shot up in the middle of the goal.

Taking one touch to set the ball onto his right foot, the Liverpool right-back unleashes a perfect long-range strike right into the top corner of the net.

“What a goal, fantastic goal,” comes the shout as applause rings out. Trent’s back in business.

When do England play next?

Having seen Alexander-Arnold lose his place in the starting XI, some Liverpool fans will no longer hold much interest in England this summer.

However, after Conor Gallagher predictably failed to replace the Liverpool vice-captain effectively, we’d argue that Trent should come back for the last-16 match with Slovakia.

It seems fairly certain that Gomez will not play, although there’s a strong argument that Southgate should try the 27-year-old over Kieran Trippier at left-back.

We will find out the answers to both questions on Sunday afternoon at 5pm, as England play Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen.

With Trent clearly in confident form in training, Southgate would be wise to bring him back in.
