‘Unbelievable’ Liverpool player is unsure whether he wants to stay at Anfield past this summer

Liverpool could be in line to lose a number of influential figures in this summer’s transfer market.

Having already seen Jurgen Klopp leave and take the bulk of his coaching staff with him, Liverpool fans will be braced for more change.

With Arne Slot coming in, there is excitement over what the future could look like for Liverpool. However, question marks now surround a handful of Slot’s first ever Reds squad.

Part of the biggest unknown is around who will make up Liverpool’s goalkeeping department.

Caoimhin Kelleher looks set to follow head coach John Achterberg out of the door, while rumours continue to circle over Alisson Becker and Adrian.

Adrian undecided over Liverpool future

It would be a disaster for Liverpool if they were to lose Alisson this summer. Although there seems to be confidence that the Brazilian will stay at Anfield, reported interest from Saudi Arabia in Alisson is a worry.

To find a replacement for Kelleher this summer would be manageable for Liverpool. They’ve reportedly already identified Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow as an option for that.

But to have to get a new number one on top of it all – especially one who could somehow match Alisson – would be unbelievably hard.

As well as that, there’s no guarantee that Liverpool won’t need a third choice to come in, too.

Adrian has a contract offer on the table from FSG, but the 37-year-old has also reportedly been speaking to Real Betis about a return home to Seville.

Although he hasn’t played a competitive match for over two seasons, it would still be a blow to lose Adrian amid so much upheaval. As Gary Lineker said back in 2019, Adrian was ‘unbelievable’ on his day.

According to The Athletic though, there is a very real chance that Liverpool could see the veteran reject their contract offer.

Despite being offered a one-year extension by the Reds, Adrian is said to be ‘yet to make a decision’ over whether he will sign in.

Who Liverpool could replace Adrian with

If it’s difficult to bring in a new second-choice goalie, then a third-choice is a little more straightforward.

Unlike the back-up, the back-up to the back-up is unlikely to see game time. They may need to put in a couple of stints on the bench, but they will more often than not never see the pitch.

As a result, the standard does not need to be quite so high. Most clubs go for an experienced ‘keeper who is perhaps in the very last hurrahs of his career.

In our opinion, Liverpool have the perfect option in Adrian’s compatriot and former Reds goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Reina will be out of contract at Villarreal this summer and would be an instant upgrade on the outgoing stopper.

We’re not sure it’s a direction Liverpool would think about heading in, but it would make a lot of sense to us.
