Jurgen Klopp says £35m Liverpool star simply ‘loves playing’ for the club

After a dismal campaign last year, this season has seen the joy return for fans of Liverpool.

The Reds could hardly have been worse in 2022/23. There was a late rally to the season, but the damage had already been done. Liverpool missed out on Champions League football for the first time since 2016.

Apart from the dire results though, the Reds were just turgid to watch in general. Too many players were too far gone. A truck-load of things needed to change.

Thankfully, Liverpool’s recruitment staff got things exactly right in the summer. As well as moving on a few players who’d perhaps passed their peaks, the Reds brought in four smashing signings.

Since then, things have improved miraculously. Liverpool still have a chance of Premier League and Europa League glory heading into the final six weeks of the season. And according to Jurgen Klopp, there’s one player who deserves a great deal of credit for that.

Jurgen Klopp hails Liverpool signing

Speaking via liverpoolfc.com ahead of Liverpool’s game against Brighton tomorrow, Klopp went out of his way to praise perhaps their best signing of the off-season.

Alexis Mac Allister has been superb ever since arriving at Anfield from the Seagulls. Pound for pound, it looks like being some of the best £35m Liverpool ever spent.

The Reds are reportedly still clapping themselves on the back for securing the Argentinian. And according to Klopp, Mac Allister himself is just as delighted to be with Liverpool.

“Alexis is exactly the player I hoped he would be; super-influential, super-smart, great guy. [He] loves playing for Liverpool as well, which is really important,” said the German.

“He’s a rhythm-giver, he’s a difference-maker, [he] can control moments of the game. [He is] always there, always involved, nothing is too much for him, he’s really a top, top, top player.

“But we had that sense when we signed him and he fulfilled all our expectations and more.”

Mac Allister ready for Brighton reunion

It’s brilliant to hear that Mac Allister is all in on playing for Liverpool. The 25-year-old has slotted in brilliantly to life at the club.

From learning from Mo Salah to making mate with Dominik Szoboszlai, Mac Allister seems to be a popular figure with his teammates.

And tomorrow he’ll meet a few of his former pals as Liverpool take on Brighton at Anfield. With Roberto De Zerbi in the frame to be the Reds next manager, it’s a match with a few interesting sub-stories. Mac Allister’s is one.

Although he might have made his name on the South Coast, Macca is a full on Scouser now. We love having you, Alexis, stay for a while hey!
