We all know Jurgen Klopp is leaving Liverpool but there is a concern dwindling in the background among some over key players following the German.

Klopp is leaving Liverpool well set in the main. They have a talented squad full of young players who should go on to have top careers.

Alongside those young players is an experienced core. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and even Trent Alexander-Arnold are very much the life and soul of this Liverpool team.

However, there is some concern a few of those top players could leave. Different factors, such as age and contact status, play into that thought process as well.

But according to Jeff Stelling, Liverpool do have a way they can ensure those players don’t actually leave.

Jeff Stelling shares his plan for Liverpool keeping key players

Stelling was chatting alongside fellow present Ally McCoist on TalkSPORT this morning.

And the former Soccer Saturday host believes Liverpool should get on with announcing a new manager to give themselves the best chance of keeping their top men.

“Of course they should, no doubt about it. The natural thing when you lose a person as influential with the quality that Klopp has had, you have got to be concerned about your playing staff that others follow. The one thing you would say is that in recent months he hasn’t half brought some of the youngsters in, so you could argue he is leaving the club with a good sound base but you do not want to start losing a Salah and Van Dijk and Trent,” McCoist said.

Stelling then added his thoughts on the matter, saying:

“Maybe, if they have got their new man nailed down, they should start naming the manager now so that the players know what they are getting.”

“If that’s possible I agree with you however the new manager they might want to name may be at a different club at this moment in time and they don’t want to release that information,” McCoist added.

Liverpool will be working hard behind the scenes

There’s absolutely no way that the Reds are not keeping their top stars up to date on certain proceedings, or at least what the plan is.

Klopp leaving is going to be tough to get over but with Michael Edwards back, the transition will be as smooth as it can be.

In fact, these experienced players are likely to play an even bigger role than most. Liverpool will need their best players and most experienced heads to ensure things go smoothly post-Klopp.

With that in mind, they’ll surely have a rough idea of who the club is eyeing.

A number of managers are being linked with a move to Anfield. Roberto De Zerbi is the latest to get a mention this weekend, while Xabi Alonso remains a key target.
