For years now there has been speculation of FSG looking to invest into another football club. That has only been speculation until Michael Edwards’ decision to return.

In Edwards’ statement, he made it very clear that one of the reasons behind his decision to return is to aid in FSG’s desire to buy another club. It it telling that the former sporting director has returned as head of football operations rather than head of Liverpool Football Club. That title also suggests FSG are exploring the market for another club.

But who could FSG invest in and what will be the criteria for Liverpool’s owners? The goal is to build a club that can attract global talent from all over the world. We at Rousing the Kop have decided to take a look at three football clubs FSG could buy right now.

Three clubs FSG could buy to continue multi club strategy

The main criteria for FSG will be to buy a club for relatively cheap but with an infrastructure already there to be able to host global talents. Ideally, this club’s location will be in Europe, where it is easier to make the transition from to the Premier League.

Countries where this could be a possibility include Belgium and France. The two factors behind those possible destinations are the fact that both countries have relatively favourable work-permit regulations. On top of that they are also in the EU, which means EU players can be recruited from 16-years-old.

Additionally, there are a lot of clubs in both Belgium and France who are struggling financially and need a buy-out. At Rousing the Kop we have gathered three in particular.

One of them is KV Oostende in Belgium. The club is currently in the second tier of Belgian football, however it has a historic past and a stadium with a capacity of around 10k. Oostende has recently come under financial problems and they are a club FSG could purchase on the cheap. Other Premier League sides have also explored potentially buying them recently (The Guardian).

That other two potential possibilities for similar reason are Saint Etienne and Girondins de Bordeaux, both teams are also in financial trouble and are looking for a buyout or potential investors. They also both play in Ligue 2 and have stadiums with a capacity of 40k. That kind of infrastructure makes the two teams an attractive potential asset for FSG.
