While Michael Edwards doesn’t officially assume his position at the helm of FSG’s footballing operations until June, behind the scenes Liverpool will already be hard at work planning a busy summer ahead. A summer where the Reds are expected to be very active in the transfer window.
Like last summer, it promises to be another unprecedented window. There are still so many unknowns. From Liverpool’s perspective, we don’t know who will be in charge of the club. You’d assume a lot of the club’s decision in the market will depend on who comes in to replace Jurgen Klopp.
On top of that, there is the prospect of other moves in the market. Saudi Arabia is expected to be a force again, meanwhile there will be moves for the likes of Kylian Mbappe. All of these could have a domino effect on Liverpool’s business as well.
But while the market is unpredictable, Liverpool will have to plan ahead. The club’s scouts will already be drawing up a shortlist of potential candidates to target. This shortlist could include a forward with 17 goal contributions this season.

Donyell Malen on Liverpool’s transfer radar
According to Christian Falk of Sports BILD, Liverpool are interested in the services of Borussia Dortmund attacker, Donyell Malen. The 25-year-old has 17 goal contributions in all competitions for the club this season and is capable of playing both on the left and the right wing.
Interestingly, Liverpool were interested in Malen back in 2021 while he was at PSV Eindhoven and Michael Edwards was still working for the club. He is someone who has been very clearly on the club’s radar for some time, and ticks a lot of boxes for Liverpool. His ability to play in not just the wide positions but also the central forward role in the front three makes him a quintessential Edwards signing.
Liverpool will probably be looking at forward options in the transfer window this summer. Malen with his proven pedigree, and experience having played in England for Arsenal, could be an ideal candidate.
