With so many top players in the squad, training at Liverpool is a high quality affair.
Those who are new into things have to adapt quickly, while those who have been at the club for years set the standards. One of those standard setters is Andy Robertson, who is currently enjoying his seventh season with the Reds.
Another is Mohamed Salah, a player who arrived at the same time as Robertson and who has gone on to achieve incredible success.
Perhaps then, when asked by Stadium Astro to name his toughest opponent in Liverpool training, it was not a surprise that Robertson opted for his old mate Salah.
“Probably Mo,” the 30-year-old confirmed. “Usually we come up against each other, he’s on the right, I’m on the left and we always kind of laugh the whole way through because we try and beat each other!
“But it’s always competitive and we always want to get one up on each other, so I’d probably say Mo.”
Robertson sticks with Salah
As well as Salah, a couple of Liverpool players have mentioned Luis Diaz as being a livewire in training. Conor Bradley in particular seemingly can’t cope with the Colombian on the AXA pitches.
But given that Bradley is a right-back and Diaz a left-sided forward, it makes sense that they’d be doing battle more regularly.
For Robbo, he’s now been facing off against Mo for almost seven years. In that time, Salah has become one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players.
At various points, the Egyptian will have been in quite incredible form heading into training every day. That will have been torrid for Robertson to deal with.

But to his credit, the Scotland captain has been one of the best in the world in his position in his own right. Coming up against a wizard like Salah every day can only have helped him in that regard.
When it comes to facing wingers across Europe and the Premier League, very few of them will be on the level of his teammate. As a result, Robertson often deals with them with ease.
At 30 and 31 respectively, Robertson and Salah now very much represent the old guard at Liverpool. We should enjoy the two of them together while we can, because who knows just how long it’ll last.
One thing’s for sure though, however long they’ve got left facing each other in training, they’re going to enjoy every last second.
