Sparta Prague manager makes claim about Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez after facing him last night

Liverpool were ruthless during last night’s resounding win over Sparta Prague.

The Reds were far from being perfect at the epet Arena, with a ‘strange’ own goal from Conor Bradley summing up their alarming defensive fragility. But in the end, they were just too strong for Sparta.

One man in particular looked a cut above the rest last night as he continued his hot streak in front of goal. Yes, Darwin Nunez is simply unstoppable at the moment.

His two beautiful finishes mean that Nunez has now scored five goals in his last four matches for Liverpool. He’s bagged at least once in each of those games.

And speaking after the game, Sparta manager Brian Priske admitted that his side had no answer for Liverpool’s No.9.

“I think when it comes to Nunez that’s why he plays for Liverpool, one of the best clubs in the world,” says the Danish coach. “He has got the quality. They have a lot of players with quality and at the end of the day we had to praise them for coming here and taking the game really seriously.”

On plenty of occasions since his signing almost two years ago, a great number of people have questioned exactly why Nunez does play for Liverpool.

Last season especially, with the goals drying up a few and too many chances missed, people were starting to get tetchy.

It’s fair to say that coming into this campaign, the pressure was on Darwin. Starting the season on the bench, it was clear that there would be questions to answer.

Happily, ever since his memorable double against Newcastle in August, the Uruguayan has been providing the answers on a regular basis.

Indeed, Nunez is now showing exactly why Liverpool forked out the huge money they did to bring him from Benfica in 2022.

Heading into the final stretch of what could still be an incredible season, the 24-year-old is one of the Reds absolute key players. There’s a strong argument that aside from Virgil van Dijk, he’s the first name on the team sheet at the moment.

With Manchester City coming to Anfield this weekend, the timing of Nunez’s hot streak couldn’t be better. He’s had a habit of popping up with big goals this year, another on Sunday could be his biggest to date.

Right now, you simply wouldn’t bet against Darwin coming up trumps for Liverpool. It’s just what he does.
