Liverpool have welcomed Mohamed Salah back to training this week as he looks to put his injury trouble behind him.
Usually such a reliable presence in terms of availability, a combination of the Africa Cup of Nations and a hamstring problem have meant that Salah has played just twice for Liverpool since the turn of the year.
Having been spotted in training yesterday though, Mo is now back. All being well, there looks likely to be a chance for minutes in the Europa League against Sparta Prague this evening.
And speaking to the press via BBC Sport ahead of that game, Jurgen Klopp said Salah has been looking ‘happy’ at Kirkby this week.
“Mo travelled,” confirmed the Liverpool manager. “He’s with us, he trained two days. Full of energy. We have to see but it’s so good that he’s back. It’s really good for us and you can see he’s very happy.
“A very unlucky situation [him] being out that long. He played an incredible game at Brentford and was then out again.”
Salah happy and ready for action
Of all the players Liverpool are waiting to return to action, Salah has the possibility to be the most decisive.
The Reds have done well in his absence, losing only once from 13 games. But even having played just one time in that run, the Egyptian remains Liverpool’s top scorer this season.
The likes of Darwin Nunez and the now injured Diogo Jota have stepped up admirably without Mo. But there’s no question he’s still Klopp’s talisman.
With Manchester City coming to Anfield on Sunday, the 31-year-old’s timing could hardly be better.
Salah has a remarkably good record against the champions and will be absolutely desperate to extend that and keep Liverpool top of the Premier League this weekend.

Before that, it will be interesting to see how the No.11 is handled for tonight’s visit to Prague.
Having returned seemingly a little early from his previous issue at Brentford, Liverpool will not want to make the same mistake again.
But you’d think that even if Salah is 80 or 85 per cent fit then he’s starting against City. As a result, maybe it would be wise just to give him a half-hour run out in the second half.
Having so rarely been injured throughout his seven years at Liverpool, it’s hard to know how long Mo will take to get back up to full speed. If his brilliant showing at Brentford is anything to go by though, he’ll maybe even hit the ground running immediately. So good to have him back and smiling again.
