The managerial question is still very much up in the air at Liverpool right now. No one really knows what is going on precisely at Anfield.
The reality is that Xabi Alonso will be the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. The Spaniard has a real connection with Liverpool fans, having played for the club in the past.
He has also done a stellar job in Germany. His Bayer Leverkusen side are currently 10 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table with 10 more games to go until the end of the season. Currently, Bayer Leverkusen are also still the only side unbeaten in all competitions in Europe this season having stretched that run to 34 games – a record in German football.
But Alonso will not be the only candidate Liverpool will look to explore in their search. There will be other potential targets. Including one who is admired by Thierry Henry.
Thierry Henry impressed by Simone Inzaghi
One potential candidate who Liverpool could be looking at is Simone Inzaghi. According to TuttoSport in Italy, he is on Liverpool’s radar. Inzaghi is an excellent coach, who has done a great job at Inter Milan recently.
He’s also impressed Thierry Henry, who praised Inzaghi on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football last night.
“Inzaghi. I have been following him for a long time, since his Lazio days,” Henry said.
“He was at one point known as the guy who if you meet him in the cup game you are in trouble, as we saw with Man City struggling against his Inter Milan in that 3-2. But you know what I like is that Conte was a bit 3-4-3 and having that nine come in, but what I like with Inzaghi is that I like right now as a coach to play with two centre forwards.”
Alonso will be the favourite to take over at Anfield. But he won’t be the only option. There are other potential candidates Liverpool could explore. Inzaghi is a perfect example of that.
