The managerial situation remains uncertain at Liverpool. Everything is still very much up in the air about who will succeed Jurgen Klopp at the club.
Xabi Alonso has emerged as the front runner. Largely in thanks to having a genuine connection with Liverpool supporters from his playing career at Anfield.
Although his successful stint in Germany so far with Bayer Leverkusen has also demonstrated his managerial prowess. Since Alonso has taken over Leverkusen has dominated the Bundesliga. His side are currently ten points clear at the top with ten games remaining. Alonso has also set a German record, having gone 34 games unbeaten with Leverkusen in all competitions this season.
However, Alonso is not the only potential candidate. The Reds have sought out other possible targets. Including a 39-year-old manager who is also on Chelsea’s radar according to the latest reports.

Ruben Amorim on Chelsea’s radar
One of Liverpool’s potential alternatives to Alonso, has been touted as Ruben Amorim. The 39-year-old has done a fantastic job at Sporting CP, and he is on course to win the league title again in Portugal.
But according to a report from The Guardian, Amorim is also on Chelsea’s radar as they seek to hire a new manager.
The report just further underlines how difficult Liverpool’s managerial search will be. Some of Europe’s biggest clubs will be looking to hire new managers including Chelsea, and also Bayern Munich.
Right now, the pool of top class managers is scarce in European football. Which means Liverpool will have to act fast in order to get the candidate they want. Whether that is Alonso or Amorim is up to the people in charge of the recruitment process at the club.
There are pros and cons for both. Amorim clearly has more experience in management. But Alonso definitely has more of an impressive recent resume. And you cannot also underestimate his connection with the fans.
