It was a special night for Bobby Clark on Sunday. One of those nights that can be the beginning of a special career ahead. Thrust onto the pitch at just 19-years and 18-days old at major final, and with just eight previous first team appearances for Liverpool, Clark was never fazed by the occasion.

If anything, the Liverpool youngster who arrived at the club from Newcastle United thrived in the opportunity. Clark immediately settled into the game and won several key tackles. He looked assured and confident on the ball and played a key role in Liverpool’s winner. His clever run into the box and deflected shot saw Virgil van Dijk convert the ball into the back of the net from Kostas Tsimikas’ subsequent corner.

That means Clark didn’t just ‘feature’ in the final, he played a significant role in Liverpool’s success, and to do that with such little experience at senior level is special. There is no doubt the youngster now has a very bright future ahead of him at Anfield.

Bobby Clark on Jurgen Klopp

Reflecting on his emotions from the final, Clark gave an exclusive interview to Liverpool’s official website. In the interview, he spoke about his pride at having represented Liverpool in a major final. Clark also revealed he thought Klopp’s decision to use youngsters was ‘unbelievable.’ Not just in the final, but in general.

“The amount of chances that he gives out to us youngsters, it’s unbelievable,” Clark said.

“Even just the other day, so many youngsters were given the opportunity on such a big stage. He could have easily just stayed with the 11 on the pitch, even though they were tired, but he showed faith in us, and I’m grateful for that.”

It’s nice to see Clark so appreciative of Klopp and grateful for the opportunities. It’s clear that the Liverpool youngster doesn’t take anything for granted. That’s exactly the attitude you want from a young player.

We are absolutely certain Clark has plenty of games left ahead of him in the Liverpool first team. Very possibly starting with tonight against Southampton in the FA Cup.
