Trent Alexander-Arnold shares who he thinks is better… Mo Salah or Cristiano Ronaldo

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has chosen between Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo.

As one the greatest Liverpool players of the modern era, Salah potentially belongs in conversations about the best of all time.

That’s what JD Sports have suggested anyway, as they asked Alexander-Arnold to pick between legendary players on their TikTok channel.

With two players appearing above Trent’s head on-screen, the 25-year-old has to nudge his head one way or the other to suggest who he thinks is better.

Having already seen off challenges from Harry Kane – with a shrewd smile from Trent – and Samuel Eto’o, Salah came up against Ronaldo in the semi-final.

There was some hesitation from the Scouser, who weighed things up for a second. But then, perhaps surprisingly, Alexander-Arnold tips his head to his left. Ronaldo wins. Mo is going to be furious.

Trent picks Ronaldo over Salah

Maybe we shouldn’t be, but we’re actually slightly surprised at this from Trent. You’ve got to back your teammate, surely?

Some will likely argue that if there’s anyone but Lionel Messi up against Ronaldo, then the former Manchester United winger wins. Indeed, Alexander-Arnold goes with Messi having also put him through to this little final.

But we’re really not sure about that. Call it bias or whatever you want, but we’d rather have Salah in our team than Ronaldo. Peak Ronaldo, early Ronaldo, current Ronaldo. Whatever, it doesn’t matter, we’re picking the Egyptian King.

There’s no doubting that Cristiano was – and possibly still is – a great player. His record at Real Madrid in particular speaks for itself.

However, in terms of what he actually gives the side, we think Salah offers more.

If you want a man who’s going to hoover up goals then fine, go for Ronaldo. But there’s much more that goes into being a great player than simply sticking the ball in the net. That’s something that’s often overlooked when it comes to Ronaldo.

At times, it almost feels like a cop out. If it’s anyone or Ronaldo, just go with the Portugal superstar until you get to Messi.

Looking at the nuances of the game though, there are better players to have come before, during and after Ronaldo’s time. Salah is one of them.

Trent should know better! Mo will be having words.
