At the beginning of this season, Michail Antonio became very unpopular among Liverpool supporters. There was a lot of doubt heading into the new campaign whether Liverpool would be able to bounce back. Antonio seemed to be among the people who doubted Liverpool’s strength.
Back then, the West Ham United forward even remarked that he thought his side would finish about Liverpool. Those comments unsurprisingly irked a lot of Liverpool fans, and since then Antonio has had a bit of a back and forth between the club’s fans.
Liverpool meanwhile have been having their say on the pitch, rising up to every challenge and battering Antonio’s own side in the League Cup earlier this season. Last night against Luton Town was another example of Liverpool’s strength in depth. Jurgen Klopp’s side seemed like they were going to falter, but out of nowhere the club’s fringe players stepped up and delivered a magnificent performance in the second-half.
All of this has been enough for Antonio to now issue a public apology.

Michail Antonio on his message to Liverpool supporters
Speaking on The Players Channel the forward who was signed for £7m by West Ham (Daily Mail) admitted he regretted making the comments that he did about Liverpool at the start of the season.
“Before we move forwards I have got something to say. At the beginning of the season I said a comment. It was a bit wild. It was very wild. I said that there was a possibility that West Ham could finish above Liverpool this year. I’m not going to lie, I said it was my chest,” Antonio said.
“They weren’t gelling at all together, I believed we were going to be sixth or seventh. There was so many stats about Klopp having seven or eight years and then having a blip, it was one of those things.
I was obviously deluded at the time. So I am going to have to hand out a public apology to the Liverpool fans and the Liverpool players. I take it back.”
It’s nice to see Antonio finally see the light. There has been a lot of back and worth between him and Liverpool fans lately. The West Ham player clearly had his own ambitions as well. Which you naturally have as a player. However, sometimes we can all be wrong. It takes a great man to admit that though. So fair play to Antonio for issuing an apology. Not many other players would have done that and admitted their error. Maybe it’s now time to go easy on the Jamaican international.
