Jurgen Klopp surely is about to unleash ‘exceptional’ Liverpool player in a different role tonight

Chaos is the best word to describe Liverpool’s current situation. It’s already been a topsy-turvy whirlwind of a season. But we haven’t seen anything yet. The utter carnage may only be about to begin.

As we approach the tail end of the 2023/24 campaign, Liverpool are still in with a chance to lift every single trophy come the end of the season. However, Jurgen Klopp now faces a major challenge to ensure that possibility remains come the end of this week.

With games against Chelsea and Luton Town, Liverpool are about to embark on a pivotal moment in the season. However, they’re heading into these games with some major injury concerns. The likes of Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all expected to be ruled out of both tonight’s fixture and the final. Meanwhile, there are also doubts about the fitness of Dominik Szoboszlai, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.

The latter two are unlikely to feature against Luton Town tonight. However, Szoboszlai is ruled out. The Hungarian could come in to face Chelsea in the cup final at the weekend though. Salah and Nunez are both doubts for that game as well.

All this means is that Jurgen Klopp could be about to return to an experiment he started during the African Cup of Nations in January.

Harvey Elliott experiment set to continue tonight

With Mohamed Salah unlikely to be risked ahead of the cup final at Wembley, this leaves Jurgen Klopp with few options to play on the right-wing. The most obvious option is Harvey Elliott, who was used in the right-wing last month while Salah was away at the African Cup of Nations.

Now against Luton, it would be no surprise if Elliott was thrust into that role once again. The 20-year-old may have played most of his minutes in midfield over the last few years, but he is more than capable of playing on the wing as well.

He’s done it while out on loan at Blackburn Rovers, and for Liverpool at academy level as well. Elliott doesn’t quite have the explosive speed of Salah, but he can be effective in the role.

Luton should be a great opportunity for him to prove himself once again. As Klopp said Elliott has been ‘exceptional’ in training recently. So, he’s clearly determined to make his mark as well.
