There is an old age cliche in football – a game of two halves. Nothing sums that up better than tonight’s performance from Liverpool against Luton Town. This was very much two completely different performances from the Reds.
In the first half, everything went awry. Liverpool didn’t play bad, but things just weren’t clicking into gear. There were times when Liverpool just couldn’t finish their chances and completely floundered in front of goal.
Luton Town’s goal came from a mishap as well. A very fortunate goal which ended up deflecting to the wrong place for an easy tap in. Liverpool went into the dugout at half-time feeling deflated. It was a sombre atmosphere at Anfield.
But in the second-half, everything came alive. Liverpool bounced back and triumphed over Luton putting in a brilliant performance.

Harvey Elliott on Liverpool’s second half performance
The Reds completely dismantled Luton in the second-half and looked like a different team.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Harvey Elliott explained what Liverpool had to change in the second half against Luton.
“As I said before the start of the game, Luton are a tough team and we had to dig deep and show the desire,” Elliott said.
“The final bit wasn’t really there in the first half. But football is a game of two halves and in the second half we showed it. We had to be a lot better than we were in the first half.
“To be fair we’re not really thinking about the [Carabao Cup] final. It was about getting the job done tonight. It’s a big game at the weekend but tonight was a final. Each and every game is a final. It’s a busy period and we need to recover for the weekend.
“We are a resilient team and we want to fight for one another. It’s a hectic season. For the lads that are injured we wish them well and we want to come back quickly.”
Elliott was probably one of the game changers in the second-half getting a well deserved goal right at the end. This result should now give Liverpool a huge boost heading into the Carabao Cup final at the weekend.
