Nothing went Liverpool’s way in the first half against Luton Town. Given all the injuries and the timing this game was always going to be a portentous one for Liverpool in the Premier League title race. And in the first half the Reds got off to a bad start.
Liverpool didn’t play awful, especially considering the context of the game. Jurgen Klopp fielded an extremely youthful and inexperienced side. And in all fairness, they dominated the possession and created chances.
Luton technically caused Liverpool few problems. Apart from one unfortunate scenario, which ended up leading to a goal for the away side. This clearly deflated an already inexperienced team but already there were signs brewing that this team was going to bounce back in the second-half. Especially from Luis Diaz, who matched his own personal record for Liverpool in the Premier League.

Luis Diaz equalled his personal record
One of the biggest signs that things were turning in Liverpool’s favour is the that Reds were completely dominant. They just kept pummelling Luton’s goal over and over again, and one of the most productive players in doing that was Luis Diaz.
Diaz took five shots in the first half, which is the most he ever took in a single game for Liverpool. None of the shots ended-up going in, but matching that personal record was definitely a sign of Liverpool’s intent. It was also a foreshadowing of what was to come in the second-half.
Unsurprisingly, Liverpool found the back of the net several times, and Luis Diaz got himself on the scoresheet as well. Overall, it was a brilliant performance from the Colombian.
