Mixed emotions is probably the best way to describe Liverpool’s weekend. On one hand Jurgen Klopp’s men delivered a solid performance, putting yet another important three points on the board in style against Brentford. On the other hand, the Reds lost several key players due to injury.
Even before the game was about to begin, Liverpool’s number one choice keeper, Alisson Becker, was ruled out due to a hamstring problem. But on the pitch, things got worse for Liverpool. First, Curtis Jones had to be substituted midway through the first half. Then Diogo Jota went down with a knee injury and had to be carried off the pitch in a stretcher.
All three have been pivotal players for Liverpool this season. News of their injuries have definitely overshadowed Liverpool’s impressive 4-1 victory. And the fact that Manchester City dropped more points, which means the league title is very much in Liverpool’s hands right now.
But to focus on the positives, Brentford was very much another statement of intent by Liverpool. It was also a game which saw Jurgen Klopp accomplish something for the very first time in the club’s history.

Jurgen Klopp writing Liverpool history against Brentford
Up until last weekend, Liverpool hadn’t yet beaten Brentford away from home in the Premier League. In fact since Brentford moved into their new Community Stadium, Liverpool hadn’t won a single game inside the ground.
At the previous two attempts, Jurgen Klopp and his side drew 3-3, and then lost 3-1 last season. But on Saturday, Klopp was finally able to write yet more history for Liverpool by getting that victory at the Community Stadium at last.
There will be plenty ruing the injuries. Which they have every right to. But let’s not get away from the fact that Liverpool put in yet another solid performance. A performance that was absolutely Premier League title winning worthy.
It’s a long road ahead, but even with the injuries, things are looking bright for Liverpool.
