Liverpool looking at signing 20-year-old striker this summer, he’s in ‘unstoppable’ form right now

Liverpool are keeping tabs on one of Europe’s most in-from strikers ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Reds are still unsure who exactly will be in charge to oversee the off-season market. But that hasn’t stopped the rumours from coming.

The latest today comes from Germany and from BILD. They claim that Liverpool are one of the teams in the running to sign RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko has been in brilliant form recently, scoring in three games running before firing a blank against Real Madrid midweek. But even though he didn’t score on Tuesday, Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schroder went out of his way to praise the ‘unstoppable’ 20-year-old.

“It’s unbelievable how much he ran, how he worked for the team and how many chances he had,” Schroder said after Leipzig lost 1-0. “The boy is unstoppable.”

The good news is that Sesko has a relatively affordable release clause that comes into effect this summer. Any interested club will have to pay around £43m to prise him away. The bad news is that Liverpool reportedly have fierce competition. All of Manchester City, Barcelona and AC Milan are said to be ‘keeping an eye’ on the Slovakian.

Liverpool eyeing Sesko move

In terms of top young attacking talent in Europe, Sesko is right up there. 10 goals in 28 games for RB Leipzig this season perhaps doesn’t do justice to just how good the former RB Salzburg man is.

Ever since his breakthrough at Salzburg, the Slovakia international has been linked with some of the continent’s top teams.

Liverpool were amongst those said to be interested in Sesko before he left the Austrian club last summer. In the end, he ended up taken the well-trodden path between the Red Bull sister clubs.

That will hardly have put the Reds off. They’ve done plenty of business with Leipzig in the past. Seen as a club with a similar playing philosophy in terms of what they ask of their players, it has been a good finishing school for the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Obviously, the remit for what Liverpool are looking for in new signings may change with a new manager coming in.

But what they’ll always be looking for is players with relatively low value who can become even better. Sesko fits that bill perfectly.

The obvious question here would be whether Liverpool truly need another forward. Big and fast, Sesko is a little in the Darwin Nunez mould. That wouldn’t feel like something that should be top of the Reds’ shopping list this summer.

Nevertheless, with his release clause coming into play at the end of the season, there’ll never be a better chance to snap up one of the most promising young forwards around.
