Darwin Nunez spotted sending tweet to Alexis Mac Allister just one hour before Liverpool’s kick-off today

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is not the most conventional of footballers.

Chaotic, a little erratic and a bundle of fun, Nunez is one of a kind. Despite his at times infuriating propensity to miss chances, that’s why Liverpool fans love him.

And today, just before kick-off with Brentford, the Uruguayan showed another little example of why he’s such a character.

With 11.24 on Saturday morning, barely an hour before Liverpool started their game against the Bees, Darwin was spotted sending a message to teammate Alexis Mac Allister. Picking up on a post on X from Mac Allister back in January, Nunez saw it as the perfect time to reply.

“Estaba rico?” – ‘it was delicious’ said the Argentine’s original post, tagging in Nunez and featuring a video of the celebration the two concocted after Darwin’s goal against Bournemouth last month.

Almost a month on, and Macca finally got his reply. “What a good mate and how happy yours is friend,” said the Uruguayan, or something along those lines! That’s one way to prepare for a big game.

Nunez prepares for Brentford clash

There’s obviously no problem with Nunez sending a little message to his teammate while preparing for match.

Like most of us these days, the 24-year-old probably has a little scroll through his social media while trying to relax. Before a big game, maybe it just settles his nerves a little.

It’s just a little bemusing that he chose Mac Allister’s post from 26 days ago to latch onto.

Perhaps the two South Americans were discussing a potential new celebration if the No.9 gets on the scoresheet today.

So far, Nunez has been lively at Gtech Stadium. His physicality and speed is always a match for any opponent, and this afternoon has been no different.

Alive to everything, the former Benfica hitman looked – along with Diogo Jota – the most likely for Liverpool. And that eventually paid off for the Reds, with Jota and Nunez combining to devastating effect to put Liverpool in the lead.

Jota was the architect, latching onto a Virgil van Dijk clearance to nod his strike partner through on goal. From there, Darwin did the rest. Scooping an audacious finish over Mark Flekken, it was a quite brilliant strike.

We didn’t spot the big man recreating his celebration with Mac Allister, but something pre-match obviously worked.
