Liverpool’s plans for Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Anfield are reverberating around the Premier League.
Although Xabi Alonso seemingly remains the favourite to take over from Klopp this summer, other names have been mentioned, too.
One of those is Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou. However, Spurs are said to be ‘extremely confident’ that the Australian is not Liverpool-bound.
The same confidence is reportedly not present at the club of another name on the Reds’ shortlist, though. Indeed, The Daily Mail report that Brighton are ‘ready’ for Roberto De Zerbi to potentially vacate his position as Seagulls manager.
Brighton are said to be putting ‘contingency plans’ in place as De Zerbi courts attention from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.
In terms of the Reds, Brighton reportedly believe that the Italian coach is ‘prominent in their thinking’ as they search for a new manager. It is also claimed that Alonso is another ‘strong candidate,’ though.
Brighton preparing for De Zerbi exit
If you ask any Liverpool fan right now, most will be quietly hoping that De Zerbi is not the man to take the reigns after Klopp.
The 44-year-old is obviously a fine manager. He’s earned plenty of praise from the likes of Pep Guardiola and Klopp himself during his 18 months or so in England.
However, it’s clear that Alonso is the man supporters want at Anfield. At this point, anyone else is going to be a disappointment.
Of course, whether it is ultimately the Spaniard who comes in will not be up to fans. It may even be out of the hands of FSG. If Alonso turns down the job, then they’ll have to look elsewhere.

If that ends up being the case, then you’d have to agree that De Zerbi is one of the outstanding alternatives.
There have been claims that Sporting’s Ruben Amorim is another who has admirers at Liverpool, and you’d think it would now be one of those three names.
But there is one who obviously stands out above the other two. Let United have De Zerbi if needs be, we’re all in on Xabi.
For Brighton’s part, they’re a smart club from top to bottom, they’ll be fine. With time between now and the end of the season, they’ll no doubt identify a brilliant successor to take over. Things are heating up.
