Liverpool don’t appear to have moved too far forward in regards to hiring a new manager.
Obviously, there’s no immediate rush with Jurgen Klopp still in situ until the end of the season. There may also be complications in speaking to candidates who are in positions of their own as the sharp end of the campaign comes into view.
One potential option who that doesn’t apply to is Hansi Flick. The 58-year-old has been mentioned as being on Liverpool’s list in the event that they can’t convince top target Xabi Alonso to take the job.
Sacked by Germany in September, Flick is currently a free agent. And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, he’s looking to land himself a new role as soon as possible.
Taking to X this morning, Romano reports that the former Bayern Munich boss has hired himself a new agent in order to make a move as soon as possible.
“Hansi Flick will be represented by Pini Zahavi as new agent, it’s all done between parties,” says the journalist.
“Former FC Bayern and German national team manager wants to return as soon as possible.”
Flick readying management return
For many Liverpool fans, the choice of who should succeed Klopp as manager of their club has already been made. Alonso is the clear favourite.
However, there still remains a possibility that the Spaniard does not end up at Anfield next season. The Reds need to be prepared for that.
So far, it’s been reported that their ‘stand out’ choice besides Alonso is Sporting manager Ruben Amorim. The 39-year-old is certainly an interesting alternative.
But so too is Flick. Fans may perhaps not be keen on Joachim Low’s former assistant at Germany taking over, but there was a time when he was the top rated coach in the game.

Back in 2020 Flick won a treble with Bayern. This led to him being named as the coveted FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag called his achievements with the Munich giants ‘outstanding’ [Bavarian Football Works].
At that time, most fans wouldn’t have needed convincing that he could carry on Klopp’s good work at Liverpool. But four years is a long time in football. And in the time since, Flick’s reputation has dwindled.
Of course, it should be mentioned that the Liverpool job won’t be the only one the Champions League winner has his eye on.
Barcelona are also currently looking for a new man to be at the helm come May. It would feel more likely that the Camp Nou is what Flick has his eye on here.
