Liverpool were back in training yesterday ahead of what promises to be another crucial weekend. The trip to Brentford is one that may seem ‘easy’ on paper but it will be far from it.

The Reds have actually never won a game in Brentford’s new stadium. They lost there last year, and drew the year before that. So Jurgen Klopp’s men have a tricky challenge ahead. A challenge they absolutely need to overcome though in order to continue competing for the Premier League title.

These are the kind of challenges that if you don’t overcome, you will fall aways from the chasing pack. And Liverpool will be determined to continue chasing and keeping the title in their hands rather than already conceding it to Manchester City – before they’ve even played them.

Ahead of the Brentford game, Klopp’s also brought in another couple of youngsters to first-team training. Most notably was one young midfielder who has been described as ‘very special’ in the past.

James McConnell training with Liverpool’s first team

That player is James McConnell of course, who has been making really positive strides since coming into the Liverpool first team in pre-season. Recently, he started a game in the FA Cup against Norwich City and even registered an assist.

He also featured in the last few minutes in the game against Burnley last weekend – making his second appearance in the Premier League. Only 19-years-old at the moment, he definitely has a very bright future ahead of him. It’s good to see him getting the recognition that he deserves and continuing to be involved with the first team.

Klopp has shown this season he is not afraid to throw anyone in at the deep-end, and McConnell is the perfect example of that. He’s definitely the next in line to breakthrough after Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah.
