‘Different class’ Liverpool player is now really starting to copy Divock Origi this season

Divock Origi will always be an indelible character in Anfield folklore. He wasn’t the greatest player. He was never a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI. But he was a reliable and consistent member of Klopp’s greatest squad.

It didn’t matter who it was against, or how much time Liverpool had left on the clock – you could always rely and count on Origi to deliver. From last minute winners to his masterclass against Barcelona and in the Champions League final – Origi was a legend. There is no dispute. What he delivered during his stay at Anfield, from the goals and the memories he created, was special.

Now though, there is another player in Liverpool’s squad who is starting to make a similar impression this season. And he proved that again in his cameo performance against Burnley yesterday.

Harvey Elliott is the new Divock Origi?

Origi’s cult status remains because of his ability to score goals and make an impact off the bench for Klopp’s side. He rarely started games for Liverpool, but he still made the different coming off the bench.

Now this season, Elliott is making his mark in a similar way. Burnley was a great example of that with the 20-year-old coming on, getting two assists and putting in a Man of the Match display which was praised by Andy Robertson as ‘different class.’

But Burnley was not an exception. This wasn’t the first time Elliott made the difference off the bench. All five of his goal contributions for Liverpool in the Premier League came at crucial times – when the Reds were on course to drop points.

When Elliott came on against Wolves earlier on in the season, the Reds were at a stalemate. He helped turn that around – getting an assist in the process. Against Luton, he provided a crucial equaliser in the final stages of the game. And in the game against Crystal Palace, he scored a winner in added time.

That’s Origi esque. Jurgen Klopp may have just found his new super-sub this season.
