‘Special’ player who snubbed Liverpool is the quickest in PL history and has beaten Mohamed Salah

Not every player you target, you’re going to sign. Liverpool know that full well. The Reds haven’t always been very successful in their pursuit of certain targets. From missing out on Jude Bellingham to the likes of Timo Werner.

But on the whole, things have always worked out in Liverpool’s favour. Not signing Bellingham last summer meant the Reds could bring in both Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. Meanwhile, missing out on Timo Werner, saw Diogo Jota arrive at Anfield instead – a move that in hindsight worked out far better for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Last summer though, it wasn’t just Bellingham, who Liverpool could not lure to Anfield. The Reds also wanted to sign Micky van de Ven, however, he snubbed the Reds in favour of a move to Tottenham instead – where he thought he had more opportunities to play regular football.

Micky van de Ven breaking Premier League record

Will Liverpool regret not signing Micky van de Ven? It’s too early to say that. The centre-back has settled in well at Tottenham. But he’s very young, and has been far from perfect since arriving in the Premier League.

Van de Ven definitely has the tools to go far though. And a recent statistic which has come to light is certainly proof of that.

According to the Premier League’s statistics, Van de Ven has broken the record for the fastest speed ever recorded in the league. He clocked a top speed this season of 37.38km/h, which is faster than even Mohamed Salah’s top speed recorded in all his time spent in the Premier League.

In the past, the Dutchman has been described as a ‘special’ talent, and it’s easy to see why. Van de Ven’s definitely difficult to get past.
