Thursday afternoon didn’t quite bring the positive news Liverpool will have hoped for. As the Reds prepare to play Burnley at the weekend, and bounce back from that defeat to Arsenal, there’s been yet another injury blow deal to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
It’s one that isn’t really a surprise. But then again is somewhat surprising at the same time. Thiago Alcantara had only returned to action last weekend. But as The Guardian reports, he is now set for another spell on the sidelines after picking up a muscle injury.
What is even more surprising about the news is that Thiago was only on the pitch for a few minutes. Clearly a top player. Jurgen Klopp described it was ‘incredible’ to have him as an option once more when he returned to training last week. But it looks like those words were premature. And from the latest reports it doesn’t look like Thiago will be around much longer.

Thiago now has obvious future at Liverpool
The Spaniard’s contract is expiring at the end of the season. In the same report by The Guardian, it has now been described that Thiago is likely to leave the club upon the expiry of his current deal.
There are no surprises there. A player who is so injury prone, and already 32-years-old should have no future at Liverpool.
There is no doubt that Thiago is a fantastic talent. But we’ve barely seen him on the pitch in the last year or so. Constant niggles and injury problems have meant he’s just been forced to watch proceedings on the sidelines. At this point, Liverpool simply cannot justify keeping him at the club for any longer.
Though we must admit while we believe it’s the right decision to let Thiago go, his departure will still be bitterly disappointing. He was a player who arrived with so much promise at Anfield.
