Despite all of the noise surrounding him, it’s been business as usual for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool this week.
After Sunday’s dominant win over Norwich in the FA Cup, the Reds are back in Premier League action tomorrow. Chelsea are the visitors to Anfield in what is a really big game.
Liverpool have been boosted over recent days by the return from injury of several important players. And speaking in his pre-match press conference this afternoon, Klopp revealed that there’s been another huge boost for the Reds. Yes, finally, after almost a year out, Thiago Alcantara is back in training.
“Thiago trained first time which was an incredible moment,” smiled the Liverpool boss.
“After all the months he couldn’t, to train the level he trained, wow. But he needs time. Wonderful, wonderful signs for yesterday. Nobody else out.”
With Klopp also confirming that Alexis Mac Allister ‘should be fine’ for tomorrow, it’s good news all around.
Thiago back in training
This has been a long, long time coming. The last time Thiago started a game for Liverpool was way back in February last year.
By the time the 32-year-old starts another one, it’s likely to be over a year to the day.
Thiago did make a couple of substitute appearances at the back end of last season, but even then, his last one was in April. This season has been a complete whitewash for him so far.
But with Liverpool pushing in all four competitions, Thiago’s timing could be impeccable. If he can stay fit and in training from here on in, the Spain international should be able to help massively.

Just like Klopp though, it still looks likely that these final months of the season will the last of Thiago’s time at Liverpool.
The manager’s impending exit might just have thrown that into doubt, though. Fabrizio Romano today suggested that there could yet be a turnaround for Thiago in that respect.
If Xabi Alonso ends up being the next Reds manager, then maybe that will be the No.6’s best bet at earning a contract extension.
For now though, it’s simply enough to hear that Thiago is back. We haven’t seen nearly as much of the former Barcelona man as we’d hoped to over the past three-and-a-half years. But injury-wrecked though it may have been, Thiago’s time at Liverpool could yet end in glory. Great news.
