The transfer window may have ended in January, but Liverpool’s recruitment team are still very much at work. Even without knowing who the club’s manager will be next season, Liverpool’s scouts will still be exploring possible options who the club could target in the future.

It is essential that when a new manager comes in he will already have reports available on any potential target in a number of different positions. Liverpool at this stage, without knowing what the new manager will want and who it will be, need to be prepared for a number of different situations.

That means looking at and exploring a plethora of potential options. One area where FSG’s recruitment will not change regardless of the new manager is on the domestic youth signings front. Over the last few years Liverpool have brought in the likes of Harvey Elliott, Kaide Gordon, Bobby Clark and Trey Nyoni from other British clubs. These players were highly rated England youth internationals, and have since been promoted into the first team. That is a policy that FSG will look to continue. And the most recent reports support that as well.

Chris Rigg to Liverpool latest

One of the biggest talents in England right now is Chris Rigg. Only 16-years-old he is already a member of Sunderland’s first team squad. Earlier this season when he scored in the Championship he became the youngest player in Sunderland’s history to score a goal for the club – eclipsing a record that stood for more than half a century dating back to 1971.

An U17 England international, Rigg was also part of the squad who competed at the U17 World Cup this year. A midfielder with great technical ability and tenacity, Sunderland’s manager has described him as someone who has a ‘no-fear mentality’ as per the Sunderland Echo.

In that same article, the Echo also reports that a number of clubs are interested in signing Rigg from Sunderland. Among them are Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Given Liverpool’s transfer policy in the last few years, it’s no surprise to see them being linked to Rigg. However, with so many other clubs also interested, only time will tell whether the Reds can be successful in their pursuit.
