Harvey Elliott shares what Mo Salah text him about Liverpool while he was away at AFCON

Liverpool are still waiting on Mohamed Salah to regain his fitness following a hamstring issue.

Salah injured himself while away with the Egypt National team last month. Although he had dreams of glory with his country, Mo fell drastically short at this year’s AFCON. Injured in the second game of the group stage, Egypt made it to the last 16 without their captain, before being beaten by DR Congo.

Prior to the tournament, much had been made of how Liverpool would get on without their talisman. As it turned out, they’ve done pretty well. In the seven games Salah’s missed, the Reds have only lost once – away at Arsenal on Sunday. They’ve won five times.

Defeat against the Gunners came not too far on the back of an impressive 2-0 win in the FA Cup against the same team in January. And speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Harvey Elliott says that Salah was keen to find out all about that game while he was away.

“Although he was at the AFCON with Egypt, he messaged me after the Arsenal game in the last round of the FA Cup saying, ‘How did you find it?’ and so on,” Elliott explains.

“They are the things he doesn’t have to do but he’s just a great human being and always wants the best for everyone. To have him in the team and to see what he’s accomplished is just unbelievable and it’s a pleasure to share the pitch with him.”

Salah keeping tabs on Liverpool

It’s nice to hear that Mo was keeping up with goings on around Liverpool while he was away. Some would like to have us believe that the 31-year-old has one foot out of the Anfield exit door already. But it doesn’t sound like that.

Of course, Salah’s interest in Elliott and his performance isn’t completely altruistic. The Egyptian is a serial winner who is always desperate for more silverware.

He’ll have been as happy as anyone to see Liverpool make it through in the FA Cup without him. As a tricky away tie, the Arsenal game was a big hurdle for the Reds to clear.

Having since progressed into the fifth round, glory at Wembley in May is still on the cards for Salah and Liverpool.

With Southampton beating Watford last night, the Saints are now confirmed as the visitors for the next round on February 28th.

Although it’s still a little unclear exactly how long Salah will be out for, his recent social media updates suggest that he’s not too far away from fitness.

Let’s hope that he’ll be fit and ready to go in the very near future.

In the meantime, he’ll have to rely on texts from his buddy Harvey to keep him right in the loop.
