Every now and again, there are players who break boundaries. Players who set new heights and become trailblazers in their own right.
That is exactly what Dominik Szoboszlai has done in his native Hungary. The Liverpool midfielder is without a doubt one of the biggest Hungarian stars to have played the sport in at least the last two decades.
And he is one of the first to play regularly in the Premier League. Definitely the first to do that at a truly huge club in the form of Liverpool. On top of that, he is also the captain of his country, and shoulders a lot of responsibility on and off the pitch. Including having many of his compatriots and teammates now looking up to him.

Mihaly Kata on Dominik Szoboszlai
MTK Budapest’s 21-year-old captain, Mihaly Kata, is teammates with Dominik Szoboszlai at international level. And recently the talented midfielder has been speaking to Nemzeti Sport about the Liverpool star.
Kata praised Szoboszlai for his leadership qualities and also revealed that he doesn’t just look up to the current Liverpool midfielder but also another former number eight at Anfield.
“He [Szoboszla] does what he does very well. After the retirement of Ádám Szalai, the armband could not have been in a better place. On the field, he is the real leader of the national team, but he also handles the situation and the pressure very well on a daily basis,” Kata explained.
“In addition to his talent and abilities, he performs at an extremely high level due to his determination and self-confidence, and his attitude is a good example for everyone. I find that his mentality is transferred to the others, he has an excellent effect on the atmosphere in the dressing room, on the team spirit, and he motivates me as well.”
In the interview Kata also revealed that he was a Liverpool supporter and also looked up to Steven Gerrard. As well as another former Liverpool player in Krisztian Nemeth.
“As a Liverpool supporter, my favorite player was Steven Gerrard, who, in addition to his performance on the field, was an extraordinary captain. At MTK, Jozsef Kanta and Krisztian Nemeth were exemplary in my eyes, I tried to learn as much as possible from them.”
