After Liverpool’s defeat to Arsenal, as usual there have been a lot of comments about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance. Even though the defeat had nothing to do with him.
As Jurgen Klopp pointed out, Liverpool actually struggled to feed him the ball. And Alexander-Arnold was substituted around the hour mark when the Reds were still in the game. Yet despite this, the pervading sentiment that Gabriel Martinelli seems to thrive against him on the left-flank was once again spread like wildfire on social media.
Even though Alexander-Arnold wasn’t even on the pitch when Martinelli scored his goal against Liverpool. So it’s time to set the record straight. No, Martinelli has not gotten the better of Alexander-Arnold. Ever. Simple as that. And here is why.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s record vs Arsenal
First of all, Alexander-Arnold has lost just three games in his entire career against Arsenal in 16 matches. Meanwhile, Martinelli has lost 50 percent of the matches he has played against Liverpool and has beaten the Reds just twice in his entire career.
On top of that, Alexander-Arnold has also registered the most assists in his entire career against Arsenal, with nine in total. He has seven assists alone in his last ten Premier League games against the Gunners. On the other hand, Martinelli has only ever made 5 goal contributions in the Premier League against Liverpool.
In his last two encounters against Arsenal, Alexander-Arnold won 10 out of his 14 defensive duels in total. He also made nine interceptions and 11 recoveries. Does that sound like a player who has been struggling against the Gunners? I think not.
