‘Going to see great things’… Gary Lineker says Liverpool have a truly ‘fantastic’ youngster coming through

Liverpool’s academy is currently in a really positive moment. The Reds have been producing plenty of top talent recently.

Jurgen Klopp has always been a manager minded to give young players a chance. That has really come to the fore this season, with a couple of prospects making the transition into fully-fledged first-teamers.

Perhaps the most exciting of that group is 20-year-old Conor Bradley. Having scored his first Liverpool goal this week against Chelsea, Bradley has announced himself as a player who could be a long-term starter for the Reds.

Praise has been flowing for the right-back, with Gary Lineker one of those to now weigh in. Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast yesterday, Lineker predicted that we will see ‘great things’ from Bradley in the future.

“Given a fair run, and I think he has a fantastic attitude, I think we are going to see great things from him,” said the Match of the Day host.

Big things predicted from Bradley

From what we’ve seen of Bradley since his emergence into the first-team, this seems like a safe shout from Lineker.

Bolton Wanderers fans will claim that they knew ever since last season that the Northern Irishman was destined for the Liverpool first-team.

Bradley won their player of the year award last season having put in an eye-catching campaign in League One. It takes a special player to do that while still a teenager.

Since then, the full-back has kicked on yet again, attacking his Liverpool career with a fearlessness that always marks out the best youngsters.

Sadly for Conor, it looks unlikely that he’ll get the chance to kick on from his impressive start with the Reds this weekend.

There had been calls for him to start tomorrow’s big game against Arsenal. However, Saturday brought devastating news, with Bradley’s father, Joe, reported to have passed away.

Obviously, football takes a back seat in light of such awful news, and the club will be doing what they can to help Conor through that.

Although he’s now built a burgeoning name for himself at Liverpool, perhaps it would now be unwise to expect too much from Bradley for the rest of the season.

Beyond that, we’re sure he’ll be back to fulfil the promise that everyone, including Lineker, sees. For now though, our thoughts and condolences are with Conor and his family in Northern Ireland.
