Diogo Jota shares how he really feels about Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool

Diogo Jota is the latest Liverpool player to give his reaction to the news that Jurgen Klopp will leave at the end of the season.

Ever since last week’s shock announcement, we’ve seen a number of the Reds squad – or those close to them – come out with their own takes on Klopp’s imminent departure. As you can expect, surprise has been the order of the day.

That is no different for Jota, who told DAZN Portugal via A Bola that every Liverpool player had been caught off guard by the news.

“It was a shock to everybody, that’s the reality,” the 27-year-old admitted. “I don’t think there was anyone in the dressing room who was expecting to hear such news, especially because this season is going very well.

“But there it is, it’s not up to us to make that decision, just to accept it. It will be a problem to know who will be the coach of the next season et cetera.

“We still have a lot to fight for this season. So we have to be focused on what we have to do on the pitch and also, in a way, make his legacy more colourful with some trophies. That’s what we want, just like we wanted before he announced that decision, because obviously we always want to win.”

Jota shocked by Klopp exit

Just like every member of this Liverpool team bar Joe Gomez, Klopp is the only manager Jota has known during his time at the club.

Jurgen was the man who brought him to Anfield and has since helped him develop into a really top player.

Just as Jota is obviously complimentary about his manager, so Klopp has been praising him to the high heavens right back.

Only yesterday, the Liverpool boss took time out of his pre-Arsenal press conference to salute the quality of his No.20. As Jurgen put it, “he is literally flying at the moment.”

He certainly is. Jota may not be the most celebrated of Klopp’s forward options, but he is perhaps the most deadly. Give the former Wolves man a chance and he’s probably going to take it.

Whoever the new manager ends up being next season, he’ll be walking into a squad that’s stacked full of quality options.

Klopp may have been the man who bought Jota and nurtured his talent. But you get the feeling that the man who follows him is getting the very best version of the Portugal international.

As Diogo says, there’s plenty to do between now and then to make sure Jurgen gets the send off he deserves. Beyond that though, expect Jota to keep on delivering no matter what.
