Dominik Szoboszlai says he did something for the very first time in his career tonight

Dominik Szoboszlai was one of the players to really make their mark for Liverpool this evening.

The midfielder marked his full return from injury with a goal, heading in an inch-perfect Conor Bradley cross to make it 3-0 against Chelsea.

In truth, there wasn’t too much Szoboszlai needed to do. The cross from Bradley was hung up brilliantly for him to nod past Djordje Petrovic. It was the culmination of a brilliant performance from the 20-year-old.

And speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Szoboszlai acknowledged the part Bradley played. The Hungarian also admitted that it could have been the first headed goal of his career.”

“I have to say thank you to him [Bradley]!” Szoboszlai laughed, while stood next to his young teammate.

“I didn’t have to do so much because it just came on my head. Probably first header in my life, but hopefully more comes.”

Szoboszlai rises highest

In all honesty, tonight wasn’t the greatest performance from Szoboszlai. In his first start since New Year’s Day, perhaps that was always going to be the case.

But at the end of the day, the 23-year-old still made sure that he impacted the game in a positive way.

In some ways, it was a display reminiscent of the one Szoboszlai put in against Sheffield United last month.

That day, just like this evening, the No.8 looked ever so slightly off the pace. A few passes went astray and he wasn’t quite catching the eye as much as others in red around him.

But just as today, Szoboszlai ended that game with a goal to his name. Whatever happens, he makes his mark.

That now makes it five goals for the season for the former RB Leipzig midfielder. Considering the amount Liverpool midfielders of years gone by have often scored, that’s an excellent figure so far.

More pleasing was the fact that Szoboszlai got this one by ghosting into the box. It wasn’t a typical screamer or anything like that, it was picking up on an opportunity and burying it.

Given his height, Dom really should score more goals with his head.
