Liverpool return to Premier League action this evening as they take on Chelsea at Anfield.
Since the Reds were last in league action they’ve qualified for the Carabao Cup final and the FA Cup fifth round. Now though, it’s time for the main event to take centre stage once more. And what a big game it is.
Liverpool have been given some good news before they take on the Blues. Jurgen Klopp confirmed yesterday that Thiago Alcantara has now returned to training.
This may have fuelled hope that Thiago might be set to play some part against Chelsea tonight. However, according to The Athletic, the 32-year-old will instead sit out until he’s built his fitness further.
They do give some indication as to who is likely to be playing his Thiago’s place, though. And after an injury issue of his own at the weekend, it’s good news for Alexis Mac Allister.
Mac Allister is said to have missed Sunday’s game with Norwich having suffered a ‘minor muscle’ injury. That has seemingly since been brushed off though, with the Argentine reportedly set to start against Chelsea.
Mac Allister in line for Chelsea start
This is really good news for Liverpool. After Mac Allister was left out on Sunday, there were worries that his absence pointed to something more serious.
The 25-year-old is not long back from missing a few games, and has been in really good form since returning.
Having built some momentum, another setback would have been difficult to accept. Fortunately though, Macca is built of stern stuff.
The World Cup winner will no doubt be looking forward to facing former Brighton teammate Moises Caicedo and Argentina colleague Enzo Fernandez in a midfield battle this evening.

Who comes out on top in that one will go a long way to deciding the game at Anfield.
Of course, Mac Allister won’t have to do it all himself, though. Dominik Szoboszlai seems likely to start alongside him having been given some minutes against Norwich.
The third slot is perhaps still slightly up for grabs. But for the time being, it looks a safe bet that Curtis Jones will complete the trio.
With Arsenal to come on Sunday, Klopp is going to need everyone fit and ready. Thankfully, Mac Allister looks like he’s about to answer that call.
