Liverpool could still have a chance of signing £26m forward, his move has just broken down

After the events of the past few days, Liverpool fans could be forgiven for forgetting that there’s a transfer window open.

Indeed, the news that Jurgen Klopp will leave the Reds at the end of the season has dominated completely since Friday. Klopp’s decision has made any rumours of transfers seem meaningless and redundant.

Nevertheless, the world keeps turning. Liverpool arguably need to plan more than ever as they prepare to entre the post-Klopp era.

And according to The Daily Mail, the Reds may have been given a boost in that respect. They claim that Club Brugge winger Antonio Nusa, who was seemingly Brentford bound, could be back on the market.

Nusa had reportedly been set for Brentford after they agreed a fee of almost £26m for the 18-year-old. However, the move is said to have hit a ‘setback,’ opening the door for other clubs to swoop in.

Liverpool are named as one of those who could benefit. Along with Chelsea, Newcastle and in particular Tottenham, the Reds are claimed to have been interested in Nusa. Perhaps we’ll see some late movement after all.

Door open for Nusa swoop

As recently as yesterday, journalist David Ornstein reported that Liverpool like Nusa very much indeed.

However, the lack of ‘clarity’ over their sporting director and managerial situation meant that they had been forced to shelve a move.

With Nusa looking set for Brentford, perhaps the Reds felt that they could keep and eye on him there, before pouncing in the future.

As the Norway international now looks unlikely to become a Bee, maybe Liverpool’s stance will become a little more urgent.

The Mail report that Nusa had in fact been ‘close’ to joining Tottenham before opting for Brentford. Should he circle back and join Spurs, a future move to Liverpool from North London would feel like a long shot.

As a result, maybe there’s still a slim chance that the Reds will forego any uncertainty and move in for Nusa.

The youngster was reportedly due to be loaned back to Brugge for the rest of the season anyway. That would mean that his arrival would be completely separate from Klopp’s remaining months at Anfield.

In all honesty, we can’t see it happening. Journalist Ben Jacobs wrote on X last night that the reason for the collapse of the deal is a failed medical for Nusa. It would be a surprise if, knowing that, Liverpool come in right now.
