After Jurgen Klopp’s announcement on Friday last week it became evident Liverpool now have a gargantuan task on their hands. Replacing the German is quite literally mission impossible. But that is what the club must now do.

Where you even begin is the next question. Looking around the pool of managers in the world, there are few available who could be suitable candidates. No one quite has the same elite pedigree as Klopp either.

Whoever comes in to take over from Klopp will be embarking on a new project. There is a certain level of uncertainty surrounding that. No one quite knows what direction Liverpool will be heading towards.

But the club are trying to get to the bottom of the problem as quickly as possible, and according to the latest reports they are seeking clarity over the future of a possible candidate.

Xabi Alonso future latest

According to Sky Germany Liverpool are trying to get clarity quickly on the future of Xabi Alonso and find out whether he would be available and interested in the job. The 42-year-old has done a remarkable job at Bayer Leverkusen and he is clearly Liverpool’s top candidate based on current reports.

Alonso plays an exciting brand of football. His affiliations with Liverpool means he should have an easier time settling in. Fans will be much patient with him compared to other potential targets.

But of course everything is still up in the air. Alonso has recently signed a new contract keeping him at Leverkusen until 2026. He only started working for Leverkusen a year and a half ago. And it remains to be seen whether he would be willing to leave for pastures new at the end of the season,
