There’s a growing theory that Liverpool will bring back 44-year-old when Jurgen Klopp leaves

Jurgen Klopp’s announcement came as a shock to many Liverpool supporters last week. But what went under the radar is that on the same day Liverpool also announced the departure of Jorg Schmadtke.

The German who has been working as a sporting director at the club will leave Liverpool at the end of his this month. Which now leaves a void to be filled. A void that probably needs to be the priority for Liverpool.

While it’s important to replace Jurgen Klopp, it’s probably as equally important to establish structure within the club. Since Michael Edwards has left Liverpool the club hasn’t really had that. Julian Ward left his position after just a year in charge, and now Schmadtke has lasted less than a year.

It seems Liverpool are making moves in that direction. And according to the latest reports, even a possible shock return is on the cards.

Michael Edwards return considered

According to a report by the Daily Mail Confidential there is now a growing theory that Liverpool could tempt Michael Edwards to return to his former role at the club after Schmadtke’s departure.

This is still a growing theory, so we must take it with a pinch of salt. However, Edwards would be a fantastic move for Liverpool. He has obviously delivered so much success over the years, and he is someone who has a proven track-record in recruitment at the highest level.

People have always felt he left the club too prematurely, and that he still has unfinished business left to do with Liverpool. He has recently embarked on his own consultancy project, but a return to the club could be a tempting proposition.

It’s one that Liverpool should attempt to try anyway. Edwards is in a league of his own, and there is a reason why some of the biggest clubs in the world have tried to lure him.
