The man, the myth, the legend. Darwin Nunez is such an enigma. But he is the best possible enigma. The Uruguayan Liverpool forward just gets you on the edge of your seat. He makes the hairs on the nape of your neck stand up. He is simply brilliant.
And today, against Norwich, was yet another example of that. Nunez was a live-wire and just ran and run out the opposition. The Championship defenders didn’t really know how to handle him. He’s just such a fantastic player, it’s difficult to keep him at bay.
His goal today was a sublime finish as well, and it means he now has 11 goals for Liverpool this season. All together, that’s not a colossal figure, especially based on the chances he has missed. However, it has allowed him to achieve something no one else has in Europe’s top five leagues.

Darwin Nunez in great form
The Uruguayan forward is in great form, and as well as his 11 goals for Liverpool he has 10 assists, which means he has contributed to a total of 21 goal contributions so far.
That’s a huge number, and it’s also a figure that makes him unique in European football. According to Opta Joe, Nunez is the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to have hit double figures for non-penalty goals (10) and assists across all competitions this season. The analytics site shared their findings on X in a post.
This just goes to show how brilliant Nunez has been this season. Okay, he is not finishing all his chances. But still he is one of the most productive players in Europe’s top five leagues. And making goal contributions from open play – which is very important. It’s just incredible stuff from the Uruguayan.
