One of the highlights in the coverage of Liverpool vs Fulham on Sky last night was the appearance of Daniel Sturridge. The former Liverpool man is so eloquent and charismatic. He’s always great to listen to.
Seeing him interact with all his former teammates at Liverpool gave us a few flashbacks as well. About a not so recent, but already seemingly so distant era. Sturridge may have only left Liverpool in 2019 – but to us it feels like a lifetime ago.
Since then, so many others have come and given Liverpool added depth in attack. So many have tried to fill the void he and other Liverpool forwards left behind. Some more successfully than others. And one of those who is doing a very successful job at it at the moment – Sturridge seems to be a big fan of.

Daniel Sturridge on Darwin Nunez
Darwin Nunez may not have scored against Fulham last night, but the attacking threat he provided and the energy he gave was essential. The Uruguayan simply creates chaos, and he is so key for Liverpool. He can create space for others, and chances, and on top of that he can take it on and score himself.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Sturridge recognised all of that, and marveled at Nunez’s quality last night.
“I think Nunez for me is a magnificent player,” Sturridge said.
“People obsess about stats and not scoring but for me he is a player who is slowly but surely getting to the level we all know he was capable of. Tonight he was a constant threat. He played well tonight.”
It’s no surprise to see Sturridge speaking so highly of Nunez. Anyone who has played the game at a high level knows just how valuable he is to Liverpool.
