Real Madrid have reportedly identified former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso as their successor to Carlo Ancelotti.
According to journalist Matias Prats, the Bayer Leverkusen coach and former Anfield superstar is Madrid’s favourite to replace Ancelotti, who is due to leave the Spanish capital at the end of this season.
Alonso has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting coaches having taken Leverkusen from the bottom of the Bundesliga table last season to now challenging for the title this campaign.

The former Liverpool maestro has made quite a name for himself in coaching, and Madrid are now calling for Alonso to replace Ancelotti, with the retired midfielder playing for Los Blancos after leaving Anfield.
Indeed, many Liverpool fans would have picked Alonso as their dream successor for Jurgen Klopp, with the Spanish coach even stating via TalkSport that he’d love to take over the Reds in the future.
Indeed, Alonso would be a brilliant heir to Klopp’s Liverpool throne, but when Madrid comes calling, it’s simply too good a prospect to turn down for a young coach.
Alonso is Real Madrid’s perfect replacement for Ancelotti

Alonso’s reputation is more than earned having transformed Leverkusen into one of the most exciting sides in all of Germany in just one short year.
And for Madrid, the Liverpool cult hero is the ideal successor for Ancelotti, even if Anfield itself would be a dream destination for Alonso in the future.
With Klopp showing no sign of leaving, though, Alonso making the move to Madrid next summer would make a lot of sense, with the Bundesliga coach a dream manager for the European giants.
